Introduction to Abandoned Carts

What counts as an abandoned cart
A guest gets all the way to checkout, adds a tour to their cart, starts entering their details — and then just stops. That's an abandoned cart. Without something catching it, it's not a near-miss, it's a sale that quietly disappeared.
TripWorks is already tracking it
TripWorks catches every one of those automatically, the instant it happens. There's nothing to turn on and no report to run first — every checkout that starts but doesn't finish is already being tracked before you ever open a settings screen.
Watch it happen, live
Open your own Sales tab, and abandoned carts sit right in the same list as your confirmed bookings — just in grey text, with a small clock icon, instead of the green checkmark a completed sale gets. That grey row is a real shopper who didn't finish checking out, showing up the moment it happened, automatically.
Where the automatic follow-up lives
From there, TripWorks is already following up on its own — up to three timed, templated emails or texts, tailored to your account, with any single activity able to break from that default entirely. How those messages get built and timed is its own lesson: Customizing Your Cart Abandon Flow.
Seeing what it's recovering
Every recovery — whether the automation closes it or someone on your team picks up the phone — shows up with real, tracked revenue, broken out by exactly how it came back. That's covered in the next lesson in this course: Abandoned Cart Recovery & Reporting.
FAQ
Do I need to do anything to start tracking abandoned carts?
No — TripWorks tracks every checkout that starts but doesn't finish automatically. No setup is required to start tracking; setup only comes in if you want to customize the follow-up messages.
How many recovery messages does a guest get?
Up to three, each sent after its own configurable delay, each using its own email or SMS template. See Customizing Your Cart Abandon Flow for how to set that up on your own account.
Can one activity use different timing than the rest of my account?
Yes — any activity can have its own Cart Abandon Flow timing and templates, separate from the account default, or turn recovery off entirely for that one activity. That override is walked through in Customizing Your Cart Abandon Flow.
How do I know if this is actually working?
The Sales Conversions report shows carts started, completed, and recovered, with real revenue numbers, split out by automated versus assisted recoveries. Abandoned Cart Recovery & Reporting walks through reading that report.
